Modeling Quantum Optical Components, Pulses and Fiber Channels Using OMNeT++

چکیده
QKD is an innovative technology which exploits the laws of quantum mechanics to generate and distribute unconditionally secure cryptographic keys. While QKD offers the promise of unconditionally secure key distribution, real world systems are built from non-ideal components which necessitates the need to model and understand the impact these non-idealities have on system performance and security. OMNeT++ has been used as a basis to develop a simulation framework to support this endeavor. This framework, referred to as “qkdX,” extends OMNeT++’s module and message abstractions to efficiently model optical components, optical pulses, operating protocols and processes. This paper presents the design of this framework including how OMNeT++’s abstractions have been utilized to model quantum optical components, optical pulses, fiber and free space channels. Furthermore, from our toolbox of created components, we present various notional and real QKD systems, which have been studied and analyzed.

With the advancement of nanoscale semiconductor technology, semiconductor optical amplifiers are used to amplify and process all-optical signals. Inthis paper, with the aim of calculating the gain of quantum dot semiconductor opticalamplifier (QD-SOA), two groups of rate equations and the optical signal propagatingequation are used in the active layer of the device. For t...
متن کاملAll-Optical Switching of Picosecond Pulses by Four-Wave Mixing in a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier
High-speed all-optical switching is demonstrated by four-wave mixing (FWM) of picosecond pulses using semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA). A light source for measurement and switching in the 1.5 μm region is produced using a normal group velocity dispersion fiber and optical parametric oscillator. The output supercontinuum (SC) optical pulses, with a spectral width of approximately 300 nm, a...
متن کاملOptical fiber link for transmission of 1-nJ femtosecond laser pulses at 1550 nm.
We report on numerical and experimental characterization of the performance of a fiber link optimized for the delivery of sub-100-fs laser pulses at 1550 nm over several meters of fiber. We investigate the power handling capacity of the link, and demonstrate all-fiber delivery of 1-nJ pulses over a distance of 5.3 m. The fiber link consists of dispersion-compensating fiber (DCF) and standard si...
متن کاملSpontaneous Four-wave Mixing in Standard Birefringent Fiber
This thesis presents an experimental implementation and a theoretical investigation of a source of photon-pairs. The source is based on the nonlinear optical interaction of two strong pump pulses in a birefringent single-mode optical fiber. The interaction is mediated by the χ susceptibility of the fiber medium and results in the spontaneous creation of two photons, referred to as the signal an...
